K2 Wayback 106 are wide touring skis designed for advanced skiers and experts who primarily seek soft, deep snow on their backcountry trips. The 106 mm underfoot width provides sufficient flotation in powder, while the lightweight construction maintains high efficiency on the ascent. This model is designed so that its downhill performance rewards every metre gained on skins.
The foundation of the construction is the ultralight Paulownia Tour Light core, developed specifically for touring skis. Paulownia wood significantly reduces the ski’s weight while maintaining adequate durability, elasticity and control on the descent. At a length of 179 cm, the Wayback 106 weighs just 1475 g per ski, remaining an efficient tool for longer ascents despite its width.
Stability and predictable handling are provided by Ti SpYne technology – a Titanal laminate developed specifically for K2’s lightweight touring constructions. It enhances vibration damping, stability and edge grip, providing greater confidence when skiing in demanding and variable terrain.
The construction is also reinforced with Carbon Overdrive. Longitudinal carbon-fibre laminates increase torsional stiffness, responsiveness and precision without unnecessarily increasing the weight. The result is an energetic ski response and confident handling even at higher speeds.
The All-Terrain Rocker profile combines gradual rocker in the front section of the ski with traditional camber underfoot. This construction improves flotation in deep snow and makes turn initiation easier, while retaining stability and effective edge grip on harder surfaces.
The Wayback 106 also features a Snophobic™ Topsheet, an upper layer that limits snow from sticking to and accumulating on the ski’s surface. This is particularly important during ascents, when accumulated snow can unnecessarily increase the weight of the setup.
The construction is completed with Biobased Resin – a resin containing 31% biobased carbon. It provides a durable bond between the individual construction layers and high resistance at low temperatures, while also using some plant-based raw materials.
